সুদীপ্ত সেনের সঙ্গে রজত মজুমদারকে মুখোমুখি বসিয়ে জেরা করছে সিবিআই৷ সিবিআই সূত্রে খবর, সুদীপ্ত সেনকে জেরা করে তদন্তকারীরা জানতে পেরেছেন, সারদা কর্তার থেকে পরামর্শদাতা হিসেবে প্রতি মাসে ১০ লক্ষ টাকা নিতেন রজত মজুমদার৷ এমনকি, বিদেশে বঙ্গ সম্মেলন আয়োজন করার জন্য ৪ কোটি টাকাও তিনি নিয়েছিলেন বলে জানতে পেরেছে সিবিআই৷ তদন্তকারীরা সুদীপ্ত সেনকে জেরা করে জানতে পেরেছে, সেই টাকার হিসেব সারদা কর্তাকে কোনও দিনই দেননি৷ চুক্তি ছাড়াই মাসিক ১০ লক্ষ টাকা সারদা গোষ্ঠীর পরামর্শদাতা হিসেবে রজত মজুমদার কেন নিতেন, এখন সেটাই খতিয়ে দেখছেন তদন্তকারীরা৷ সিবিআই সূত্রে খবর, বেশ কিছু প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তিদের সঙ্গে পরিচয়ও করিয়ে দেন রজত মজুমদার৷ তাঁরা কারা? তাঁদেরই বা কত টাকা দেওয়া হয়েছে, তা খতিয়ে দেখছে সিবিআই৷ সেই সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর খুঁজতে দু’জনকে মুখোমুখি বসিয়ে জেরা শুরু করেছেন গোয়েন্দারা৷ এদিকে, ইস্টবেঙ্গল কর্তা দেবব্রত সরকারের হিসাবরক্ষককে ডেকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ শুরু করেছেন তদন্তকারীরা৷

সিন্ডিকেটের দাপটে বন্ধ কাগজকলের কাজ

সিঙ্গাপুর থেকে লগ্নি আহ্বান করে সপার্ষদ মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় যে দিন কলকাতায় ফিরলেন, সে দিনই সিন্ডিকেটের দৌরাত্ম্যে বন্ধ হয়ে গেল আরও একটি কারখানার কাজ।

যে রাজ্যে রাজনৈতিক সুস্থিতি ও সুরক্ষা আছে, তাদের শিল্পপতিরা সেখানেই বিনিয়োগ করবেন বলে ইতিমধ্যেই স্পষ্ট করে দিয়েছে  সিঙ্গাপুর। কিন্তু রাজ্যে একের পর এক শিল্পসংস্থায় দাদাগিরি এবং অশান্তির ঘটনা এবং তাতে শাসক দলের লোকজনের জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগ এড়ানো যাচ্ছে না।

শুক্রবার দুর্গাপুরের প্রতাপপুরে যে কাগজকলে ‘সাসপেনশন অব ওয়ার্ক’ নোটিস ঝোলানো হয়, তারা সিন্ডিকেটের চাপ সহ্য করতে না পেরেই নির্মাণকাজ বন্ধ করেছে বলে অভিযোগ। সেটির মালিক, দিল্লির শিল্পপতি বাবু খান্ডেলওয়াল দুর্গাপুর ছাড়ার আগে আক্ষেপ করে গিয়েছেন, “এখানে শিল্পের উপযুক্ত পরিবেশ নেই। তাই কাজ বন্ধ করতে হল।”

ঘটনাচক্রে, যে সিঙ্গাপুরে  মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বিনিয়োগ আনতে গিয়েছিলেন, সেখানকারই আবাসন সংস্থা কেপেল ল্যান্ড লিমিটেডও সিন্ডিকেটের    দাপটে রাজারহাটে আবাসন প্রকল্পের কাজ অসম্পূর্ণ রেখে পাততাড়ি গুটিয়েছে বলে অভিযোগ। লাভজনক শিল্পের পরিবেশ না থাকাও তাদের রাজ্য ছাড়ার অন্যতম কারণ বলে  সংস্থা সূত্রের খবর। রাজ্যে তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি পার্ক গড়ার প্রকল্প তারা আগেই বাতিল করে দিয়েছিল।

দুর্গাপুরে কেন ঝাঁপ ফেলতে হল কাগজকলের কাজে?

খান্ডেলওয়ালের অভিযোগ, “সিন্ডিকেট ও লোক নিয়োগ নিয়ে তৃণমূলের দুটি গোষ্ঠীর দাপটে চরম সমস্যা দেখা দিয়েছে। পরিস্থিতি না বদলালে কারখানা আর চালু হবে কি না, বলা মুশকিল।” গত মঙ্গলবারই বর্ধমান জেলা পরিষদের সভাধিপতি তথা তৃণমূল নেতা দেবু টুডুর সঙ্গে দেখা করে ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্প   সংস্থার কর্তারা অভিযোগ করেছিলেন, সিন্ডিকেটের দাপটে তাঁদের কারখানা লাটে ওঠার জোগাড়। তার তিন   দিনের মধ্যে দুর্গাপুরের প্রতাপপুর এলাকায় ওই কাগজকলে আপাতত নির্মাণকাজ বন্ধ হওয়ায় সেই     আশঙ্কাই সত্য প্রমাণিত হল।

ঘটনাচক্রে, বৃহস্পতিবারই মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে মধ্যাহ্নভোজ খাওয়ানোর পরে সিঙ্গাপুরের বিদেশ ও আইনমন্ত্রী কে ষণ্মুগম জানিয়েছেন, তাঁর দেশের শিল্পপতিরা সেই রাজ্যেই বিনিয়োগ করতে চাইবেন, যেখানে রাজনৈতিক সুস্থিতি ও সুরক্ষা আছে। যেখানে বিনিয়োগ করতে তাঁরা ভয় পাবেন না। অর্থাৎ, মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সদলবলে সিঙ্গাপুরে গেলেও আদৌ লগ্নি আনতে পারবেন কি না, তার অনেকটাই এই ‘শিল্পবান্ধব পরিবেশ’ দিতে পারা বা না পারার উপরে নির্ভর করছে।

অথচ রাজারহাট-নিউটাউন থেকে দুর্গাপুর, যেখানেই সিন্ডিকেট গড়ে দাদাগিরি-গুন্ডামির অভিযোগ উঠছে, কোথাওই তৃণমূলের লোকজনের নাম অভিযোগের বাইরে থাকছে না। তৃণমূলের শীর্ষ নেতৃত্ব যতই এ নিয়ে সতর্ক করুন, এমনকী উত্তর ২৪ পরগনায় লিখিত নির্দেশ দিয়ে দলীয় নেতা-কর্মীদের সিন্ডিকেটের সঙ্গে যুক্ত হতে নিষেধ করুন, তাতে যে লাভ বিশেষ হচ্ছে না তা কার্যত পরিষ্কার। পরিস্থিতি এতটাই সঙ্গিন যে দলের নেতা সিন্ডিকেটে জড়িত বলে রাজ্য নেতৃত্ব তথা পুলিশের কাছে কিছু দিন আগেই লিখিত অভিযোগ করেছিলেন আসানসোল-দুর্গাপুর উন্নয়ন পর্ষদের (এডিডিএ) চেয়ারম্যান তথা স্থানীয় তৃণমূল বিধায়ক নিখিল বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। তাতেও ছবিটা পাল্টায়নি।

একের পর এক এই ধরনের ঘটনা রাজ্যের বাইরে কী বার্তা নিয়ে যাচ্ছে, তা-ও দিল্লির শিল্পপতির বক্তব্যে পরিষ্কার। রাতে দিল্লি ফেরার আগে বাবু খান্ডেলওয়াল বলে যান, “যা পরিবেশ দাঁড়িয়েছে, কাজ চালানো যাবে না। তাই নোটিস দিতে হল।” সিটুর বর্ধমান জেলা সভাপতি বিনয়েন্দ্রকিশোর চক্রবর্তীও দাবি করেন, “তৃণমূলের দু’টি গোষ্ঠীর কার আধিপত্য বজায় থাকবে, তা নিয়ে গণ্ডগোলের জেরেই কাগজকলটি বন্ধ হয়েছে বলেই আমরা খবর পেয়েছি।”

তৃণমূল নেতাকর্মীদের একাংশও কার্যত একই কথা কবুল করছেন। দলের দুর্গাপুর-ফরিদপুর ব্লক সভাপতি সুজিত মুখোপাধ্যায় বলেন, “তাপস

মণ্ডল ও মানস মণ্ডল নামে দুই স্থানীয় তৃণমূল নেতা ওখানে সিন্ডিকেট চালাচ্ছেন বলে আমরা অভিযোগ পেয়েছি। জড়িতদের বিরুদ্ধে দলের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্তৃপক্ষকে জানিওয়েছি।”

স্থানীয় সূত্রের খবর, বছর চারেক আগে প্রতাপপুরে একটি কাগজকল খোলা হলেও তা বন্ধ হয়ে গিয়েছিল। সেটি কিনে নিয়ে ফের উৎপাদন চালুর তোড়জোড় শুরু করেছে বর্তমান সংস্থাটি। কারখানার ম্যানেজার অর্ধেন্দু হাজরা জানান, অসীম ঘোষ নামে এক শিল্পপতি কারখানাটি গড়েছিলেন। বিভিন্ন কারণে সেটি চালাতে পারেননি। অনাদায়ী ঋণ থাকায় ব্যাঙ্ক কারখানাটি বাজেয়াপ্ত করে নিয়েছিল। গত জুনে ব্যাঙ্কের থেকে প্রায় পৌনে তিন কোটি টাকায় তা কেনেন বাবু খান্ডেলওয়াল। সীমানা পাঁচিল ও অন্য কিছু নির্মাণকাজ বাকি ছিল। উৎপাদন বাড়াতে কিছু সম্প্রসারণ প্রকল্পও হাতে নেওয়া হয়।

এই গোটা নির্মাণকাজের দায়িত্বে রয়েছেন মনোতোষ সেন চৌধুরী নামে এক ঠিকাদার। তাঁর অভিযোগ, “সিন্ডিকেটের প্রবল চাপে যা দাম তার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি টাকা দিয়ে নির্মাণসামগ্রী কিনতে হয়েছে। তার পরে শুরু হয়েছে লোক নেওয়ার চাপ।” যত মজুর প্রয়োজন তার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি মজুর নিতে বাধ্য করা হয় বলেও অভিযোগ। তবে সিন্ডিকেটের সঙ্গে কোন রাজনৈতিক দলের লোক জড়িত, তা তিনি খোলসা করেননি। তাঁর আক্ষেপ, “বাধ্য হয়ে কাজ বন্ধ রাখতে হয়েছে। নির্মাণসামগ্রী নষ্ট হচ্ছে।”

এর পরেও অবশ্য ঠিকাদার কোথাও অভিযোগ জানাননি। কেন? মনোতোষবাবু পাল্টা বলেন, “কোথায় অভিযোগ জানাব? আমি কর্তৃপক্ষকে সব বলেছি। জানিয়ে দিয়েছি, আমার পক্ষে কাজ করা সম্ভব নয়।” অর্ধেন্দুবাবু বলেন, “পরিস্থিতি হাতের বাইরে চলে যাচ্ছে দেখে আমি মালিককে খবর দিই। উনি কারখানায় আসেন। বৈঠক হয়।” তাঁর অভিযোগ,  তৃণমূলের নেতৃত্বে এ দিন এলাকার কিছু লোকজন কারখানার সামনে এসে জড়ো হয়ে কাজের দাবি করতে থাকেন। পরিস্থিতি দেখে কাজ বন্ধের সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়।

বিকেলে কারখানার গেটে নোটিস দিয়ে জানানো হয়, ‘বিভিন্ন প্রকার অশান্তিপূর্ণ পরিস্থিতি তৈরি হওয়ার দরুণ আমরা কারখানার যে কোনও কাজকর্ম বন্ধ রাখতে বাধ্য হচ্ছি।’  অর্ধেন্দুবাবু বলেন, “উৎপাদন শুরু হলে সব অদক্ষ শ্রমিকই স্থানীয় ভাবে নেওয়া হবে বলে ঠিক হয়েছিল। উদ্দেশ্য ছিল, যাতে এলাকার আর্থিক উন্নয়ন হয়। কিন্তু তার আগেই এমন পরিস্থিতি তৈরি হল।”

রাত পর্যন্ত অবশ্য তাপস মণ্ডল বা মানিক মণ্ডলের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করা যায়নি। আইএনটিটিইউসি-র জেলা সভাপতি প্রভাত চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের দাবি, বিষয়টি তাঁর জানা নেই।

কয়লার কালিঝুলি-মাখা জগৎ থেকে সিঙ্গাপুরের ঝকঝকে দুনিয়া কতটা দূর! সিঙ্গাপুরে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সঙ্গী শিল্পপতিদের মধ্যে আসানসোল-দুর্গাপুর এলাকার বিতর্কিত কয়লা ব্যবসায়ী বলে পরিচিত এক ব্যক্তির উপস্থিতিই উস্কে দিয়েছে এই জল্পনা।
রাজ্যের জন্য লগ্নি আনতে বিদেশ সফরে গিয়ে প্রতিনিধিদলে কাদের রাখা হয়েছে, সেই সম্পর্কে পূর্ণ তথ্য প্রকাশের দাবি তুলেছেন বামফ্রন্ট চেয়ারম্যান বিমান বসু এবং প্রদেশ কংগ্রেস সভাপতি অধীররঞ্জন চৌধুরী।
সিঙ্গাপুরে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী যত জন প্রতিনিধি নিয়ে গিয়েছেন, সাধারণত প্রধানমন্ত্রীরাও অত বড় দল নিয়ে যান না বলে প্রথম থেকেই সরব ছিল বিরোধীরা। পক্ষান্তরে রাজ্য সরকারের বক্তব্য ছিল, প্রতিনিধিদলে বেশির ভাগই শিল্পপতি। এই চাপান-উতোরের মাঝেই সিঙ্গাপুরে গিয়ে পাখিরালয় দেখতে যাওয়ার পথে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর বাস-সফরের একটি ছবি নতুন বিতর্কের জন্ম দিয়েছে। সংবাদপত্রে প্রকাশিত ওই ছবি হাতে নিয়েই বিমানবাবু বৃহস্পতিবার প্রশ্ন তুলেছেন, “এই ব্যক্তি কোন শিল্পপতি? কে নিয়ে গিয়েছে এঁকে? সম্পূর্ণ তথ্য জানাক সরকার।”
‘সরকারি বিষয়’ বলে প্রশ্নটি নিয়ে কিছু বলতে চাননি তৃণমূলের সর্বভারতীয় সাধারণ সম্পাদক মুকুল রায়। আর মন্ত্রী পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের বক্তব্য, “সিঙ্গাপুরে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সফরসঙ্গীদের পূর্ণাঙ্গ তালিকা আমার কাছে নেই। ওখানে কারা গিয়েছেন তা নিয়েও আমি সম্পূর্ণ অবগত নই।”
কিন্তু বিমানবাবুর অভিযোগ, “স্থানীয় লোকজনের কাছে আমরা জেনেছি, মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে ছবিতে এক জনকে দেখা যাচ্ছে, যিনি নাকি কোল মাফিয়া বলে পরিচিত। তাঁর নাম কৃষ্ণমুরারি কয়াল ওরফে বিল্লু।” অধুনা কলকাতার বাসিন্দা, আদতে রানিগঞ্জের লোক এই কয়ালের বিরুদ্ধে ‘অনেক মামলা ছিল’ বলেও দাবি করেছেন বিমানবাবু। বাম জমানায় আসানসোল শিল্পাঞ্চল এলাকার কয়লা-মাফিয়া বলে পরিচিত কালে সিংহ এক বার তৎকালীন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বুদ্ধদেব ভট্টাচার্যের হাতে ত্রাণ তহবিলের চেক তুলে দেওয়ায় প্রভূত বিতর্ক হয়েছিল। বুদ্ধবাবু শেষ পর্যন্ত ওই চেক ফিরিয়ে দেওয়ার নির্দেশ দিয়েছিলেন। বিমানবাবুরা এখন যাঁর কথা বলছেন, তাঁর নামে পুলিশের খাতায় তেমন কোনও অভিযোগ আছে কি? বিমানবাবুর জবাব, “স্থানীয় সূত্রে জেনেছি, একাধিক মামলা ছিল। সে সব কেস আছে, না উঠে গিয়েছে, আমার জানা নেই। আপনারা খোঁজ নিয়ে দেখুন!” যাঁকে ঘিরে এই চাপান-উতোর, সেই কয়ালের সঙ্গে বারবার চেষ্টা করেও যোগাযোগ করা যায়নি। তাঁর ফোন বন্ধ ছিল।
তবে মধ্য চল্লিশের কয়ালকে রানিগঞ্জ এখনও বিল্লু নামেই চেনে। একদা প্যাকেট করে নুন বিক্রেতা বিল্লুর চমকপ্রদ উত্থান অনেকেরই বিস্ময়কর ঠেকে। বছর ছয়েক আগে কয়লা মাফিয়া রাজু ঝা-এর সঙ্গী হিসেবে পরিচিতি তৈরি হয় তাঁর। তখনকার শাসক দলের নেতা সুশান্ত ঘোষের সঙ্গেও বিল্লুর ঘনিষ্ঠতা ছিল বলে স্থানীয় সূত্রের দাবি। বিমানবাবুকে খোঁচা দিয়ে এ দিন তাই পার্থবাবুর মন্তব্য, “কয়লা আর ময়লা কারা, তা বিমানবাবুর থেকে ভাল কেউ জানেন না।”
রাজ্যে পালাবদলের পরে রাজুকে গ্রেফতার করে পুলিশ। অথচ নিজের ব্যবসা অটুট রেখে কয়াল কিন্তু তাঁর সাম্রাজ্য বাড়িয়ে চলেছেন বলেই স্থানীয় মানুষের দাবি। এখন বর্ধমান, বীরভূম ও পুরুলিয়ার কিছু এলাকায় কয়লার কারবারে কয়ালের দাপটের কথা মানছেন পুলিশের একাংশও। ওই তল্লাটের এক পুলিশকর্তার দাবি, “রাজুর সঙ্গী হিসেবেই এ সব কারবারে জড়িয়েছিলেন কয়াল। রাজু গ্রেফতার হওয়ার পরেও বকলমে তাঁর নামে এ সব কাজ চালাতেন।”
পুলিশ সূত্রের খবর, রাজু ধরা পড়ার পরে এক সময় কয়ালের প্যাডেও কয়লা আমদানি হয়েছে। শাসক দলের নেতাদের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠতাই তাঁর রক্ষাকবচ। শাসক দলের একাধিক মন্ত্রী, মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সচিবালয়ের গুরুত্বর্পূণ এক আধিকারিকের সঙ্গে কয়াল ক্রমাগত যোগাযোগ বাড়িয়ে গিয়েছেন। কয়লা মাফিয়াদের গোষ্ঠীদ্বন্দ্বেও শাসক দলের সংস্রব তাঁকে নানা ‘অ্যাডভান্টেজ’ দিয়েছে বলে স্থানীয় সূত্রের খবর। আসানসোলের প্রাক্তন সিপিএম সাংসদ বংশগোপাল চৌধুরীর বক্তব্য, “কী ঘটছে, তৃণমূল কী করছে, খনি এলাকার মানুষ চোখের সামনে দেখতে পাচ্ছেন! এর বেশি আর কিছু বলার দরকার নেই!”
সিপিআই (এমএল) লিবারেশনের আসানসোল লোকাল কমিটির সম্পাদক সুরেন্দ্র সিংহের অভিযোগ, “রাজু ঝায়ের আড়ালে কৃষ্ণ কয়াল কয়লা-সহ নানা অবৈধ কারবারে যুক্ত। শাসক দলের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠতার জন্যই তিনি ছাড় পেয়েছেন।” কর্পোরেট সংক্রান্ত সরকারি নথি বলছে, আধুনিক ভেঞ্চার্স, আধুনিক কন্ট্র্যাক্টর্স ও গণপতি ইন্ডিয়া ইন্টারন্যাশনাল নামে তিনটি সংস্থায় কয়ালের সঙ্গে অন্যতম ডিরেক্টর রাজুর স্ত্রী রঞ্জুদেবী। কংগ্রেসের বর্ধমান জেলা (শিল্পাঞ্চল) সম্পাদক চণ্ডীচরণ চট্টোপাধ্যায় কয়াল ওরফে বিল্লুর বিষয়ে নিরপেক্ষ তদন্ত দাবি করেছেন।
তৃণমূলের জেলা (শিল্পাঞ্চল) সভাপতি ভি শিবদাসনের অবশ্য পাল্টা দাবি, সব অভিযোগ ‘উদ্দেশ্যপ্রণোদিত’। কয়ালের দীর্ঘদিনের সুহৃদ তথা সফ্টঅয়্যারের একটি সংস্থায় (ইস্ট ওয়েস্ট মাইক্রো ইন্ডাস্ট্রি) তাঁর ‘পার্টনার’ পঙ্কজ খেতানেরও দাবি, কয়াল অবৈধ কয়লা ব্যবসায় যুক্ত নন। আসানসোল ছেড়ে গত বছর দশেক ধরে তিনি প্রধানত কলকাতার কাঁকুড়গাছির বাসিন্দা। নিমতা, দুর্গাপুর বা অন্যত্র একাধিক আবাসন ও সড়ক প্রকল্প, বাণিজ্যিক নির্মাণে যুক্ত। যুক্ত শিল্পসংক্রান্ত কিছু উপদেষ্টা সংস্থার সঙ্গেও। কে জে রিয়েলইনফ্রা, ভিটি ইন্ডাস্ট্রিয়াল কর্পোরেশনের মতো কয়েকটি সংস্থার তিনি কর্ণধার। রয়েছে মশলার কারবার। কয়ালের ঘনিষ্ঠ এক সূত্রের খবর, ওড়িশার বারবিলে লৌহ আকরিক ক্রাশিং ইউনিটও রয়েছে কয়ালের।

এখন প্রশ্ন হল, মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর ঘনিষ্ঠ বৃত্তে কয়াল ঢুকলেন কী ভাবে? রাজ্য বা কলকাতার উচ্চকোটির কাছে নিজের ইতিবাচক ভাবমূর্তি গড়ে তুলতে হোটেল, আবাসন প্রকল্পের পাশাপাশি অধুনা টালিগঞ্জের গ্ল্যামার দুনিয়ায় পা রেখেছেন তিনি। আগে রিপ্রোডাকশন এন্টারটেনমেন্ট সংস্থার হয়ে বেশ কয়েকটি ছবির বিপণনে জড়িত ছিলেন কয়াল। এখন ব্ল্যাক পেপার এন্টারটেনমেন্ট সংস্থার ব্যানারে একসঙ্গে খান সাতেক ছবির প্রযোজনায় যুক্ত। টালিগঞ্জে কয়ালের এই প্রতিপত্তিই তাঁকে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর ঘনিষ্ঠ বৃত্তে প্রবেশের ‘পাসওয়ার্ড’ দিয়েছে বলে রাজনীতি ও বিনোদন জগতের কারও কারও দাবি।
বস্তুত, শুধু সিঙ্গাপুর নয়, মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর বিভিন্ন সফর বা কর্মসূচিতে গত কয়েক বছরে বার কয়েক দেখা গিয়েছে কয়ালকে। মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সাম্প্রতিক উত্তরবঙ্গ সফরেও সঙ্গী ছিলেন তিনি। সেই ধারা মেনেই চলতি সিঙ্গাপুর সফরে বিভিন্ন দ্রষ্টব্য স্থানে ঘুরে বেড়ানোর সময়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর কাছাকাছি ছিলেন তিনি। পঙ্কজ খেতান যদিও দাবি করছেন, কয়াল মোটেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গী শিল্প-প্রতিনিধি দলের এক জন নন। খেতানের কথায়, “ঘটনাচক্রে, নিজের ব্যবসার কাজে কয়াল এখন সিঙ্গাপুরে। মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে ওঁর দেখাও হয়েছে। তার মানেই এটা প্রমাণ হয় না উনি মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সফরসঙ্গী।” যদিও বিমানবাবুর প্রশ্ন, “উনি তো পাখিরালয় দেখার সময় মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বাসে ছিলেন! সংবাদপত্রে ছবি দেখা যাচ্ছে।”
এ দিন দুপুরে মণি স্কোয়ারের সাত তলায় কয়ালের একটি সংস্থা আধুনিক ভেঞ্চার্স-এর অফিসে গিয়েও দেখা গেল, সংস্থার কণর্ধার সিঙ্গাপুরে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর ‘টিম বেঙ্গল’-এর এক জন হয়ে ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছেন বলে সেখানকার কর্মচারীরা রীতিমতো গর্বিত। ওই সংস্থাটি রানিগঞ্জ-দুর্গাপুর হাইওয়েতে ‘সরোবর গোষ্ঠী’র সঙ্গে একটি হোটেল তৈরি করছে। দুর্গাপুজোর পুরস্কারের সঙ্গেও কয়াল নিজেকে যুক্ত করেছেন। ধূমপান-বিরোধী বার্তা নিয়ে ‘স্মোক ফ্রি শারদশ্রী’ বলে একটি পুজো-সম্মানের পৃষ্ঠপোষক তিনি।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে কয়াল যখন সিঙ্গাপুরে, তখন কলকাতায় তাঁর প্রযোজনায় ‘হঠাৎ হলিডে’ নামে ছবির শ্যুটিং চলছে। লেকল্যান্ড কান্ট্রিক্লাবে শ্যুটিংয়ের ফাঁকে অভিনেত্রী কনীনিকা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, “ওঁর (কয়াল) সঙ্গে এক বার মুম্বইয়ে মধ্যাহ্নভোজের একটি অনুষ্ঠানে দেখা হয়েছিল। চেকে ওঁরই সই দেখেছি। কিন্তু এর বেশি তো জানি না!”

A glimpse of "Honest" Mamata

Mamata Banerjee who often described as single-handedly ended the over 3 decade rules of a democratically elected Left Government in West Bengal a state in the Union of India - is a damn lie. This is said to glorify her image which is never so glorious rather murkier by many counts.

*She filed in nomination for India's 10th Parliament(20 June 1991 - 10 May 1996) and claimed that she had done a "Doctorate" from East-Georgia University, USA which University later found never existed.

*She always lies about her age too. She often says that according to her school certificate she is only 6 months younger than her elder brother, Ajit Banerjee which is never true since 2005 voter list shows that her elder brother's age is 51 and she is 49 years old.

*In 1990 she made a hue and cry over an incident in which she alleged that CPM, the then ruling party of West Bengal, tried to kill her by engaging Lalu Alam but after six months it was found that Lalu Alam become her most trusted aid! Later it was found that duo was conspired to malign the then govt. and bring her into limelight.

*Similarly in 1993 August she led a rally to West Bengal State Secretariat for forcibly dislodge a democratically elected government. The rally, comprised of criminals and drunkard goons, soon turned violent and attacked police with bombs and guns. Police fired in self-defense in which 9 people died. She uses those people and pushed them in front of bullet to gain political mileage. After becoming CM of Bengal on 2011 she constituted an investigation commission again to take political revenge but now the minister for power Mr. Manish Gupta who was then home secretary then made an affidavit before court that it was Mamata who provoked the crowd to turn violent and attack police. In her political career  many a times she did this.

*After prolonged non-industrialisation of West Bengal when Mr. Budhdhadev Bhattarcharya tried to bring industry in Bengal and make Bengal an industrial state in 2007, Mamata sensed that if Mr.Bhattarcharya succeeded in his effort then she will never been able to come anywhere nearer the power in West Bengal. Mr.Bhattarcharya invited India's most respected business group TATA to build a small car factory and Mr. Ratan Tata India's most respected industrialist agreed and started small car Nano factory at Singur. But Mamata posed unrealistic demands against that industry and provoked villagers of that area to start a hostile agitation against Tata Motors' Nano factory over the issue of 'unwilling villagers' whose land was taken for stting up that factory. When almost 90% of the works of factory set up was completed being continuously harassed by hostile agitation Tata Motors decided to shift the factory to Gujrat. Mamata for her political mileage drove out industrialisation prospect of Bengal and Gujrat gained for the folly of Mamata. Now those villagers who were mislead by Mamata repent that it was their mistake to drove out Tata following Mamata's provocation which eventually made their life miserable. Mamata to gain herself power seat of Bengal played with innocent villagers sentiment without giving them any material gain but false promise that she will return them their land.

*Similarly she led another agitation on the back of it again inciting villagers and here she found an ally - the ultra leftist extremist group called Maoists. The outlawed band support her with their guns and create anarchy by digging roads, killing people and police which resulted govt to take action and in a violent incident on 14 Mar 2007 police had to open fire against the Maoists but they cunningly advanced the villagers. Police firing killed villagers and Mamata was happy that her plot worked. An all round condemnation of the police firing snowballed and created huge anti Budhdhadev sentiment which resulted his ouster from power in 2011.His sincere attempts to industrialise and create employment for Bengal people overshadowed by the much hyped and criticised event of  police firing in Nandigram. There too she created trouble with the help of Maoists just to dislodge Mr.Bhattarcharya's govt. and gain power. Bengal's opportunist 'intellectuals' who didn't have enough creativity for their own sustenance and couldn't able to extract enough govt-sponsored largesse flocked behind Mamata for gain themselves out-of-turn bounties. 

*Soon it brought windfall of success for Mamta in elections. Poor people who voted Mamata in the hope for getting their dues got none but those opportunist pseudo intellectuals gained a lot. Mamata misused railways fund and give them more than enough bounties they deserve.

Mamata's misdeeds are so many that even a 5000 pages book won't be enough to describe all. It's wonder to everyone that Bengal people are often described as intelligent, cultured and gentle still how they elect such a person who possess none of those qualities! Her on going regime is the burning example of her misrule. Haldia: Flags at the factory gates changed overnight after Trinamool Congress came to power on May 13. It marked the end of the Citu era in Haldia that rarely happens for trade unions elsewhere in the country. But in Bengal, the Citu leaders identified themselves more with the ruling CPM to exercise control on all the stakeholders – from the employees to their bosses. Stripped of power, the Citu-affiliated trade unions crumbled like a pack of cards. The members have virtually gone underground after handing down the mantle to the rival Trinamool-backed union leaders who faced a similar fate when the Left was in power. 
    The once-all-powerful CPM zonal secretary Sudarshan Manna can’t even move out after sundown, such is the scare. A total 43 Citu offices in this industrial belt had to be closed downwith the leaders huddling in the Sukumar Sengupta Bhavan, the CPM’s Haldia zonal office and the Left Front’s last fortress in Haldia. 
    “We cannot even sit at Shramik Bhawan, the Citu headquarters in Haldia. Only some of our port labourers go there and leave before sunset. You cannot imagine the extent of terror we are facing,” said Manna. 
    He claimed that they still have a support base among the majority of labourers. But they are scared to come out in the open with us. “There is no democracy in Haldia. What is going on here is a mockery of democracy,” Manna said. 
    Manna’s remark sounds similar to the Trinamool’s comments when Haldia MP and CPM strongman Laxman Seth held the sway. When TOI reporters met Trinamool labour wing leader Azizul in 2010, he said: “We are not even allowed to enter the factory gates. If any of our supporters dares to go near the factories, he is chased away.” 
    The CPM zonal office puts on a rather desolate look, with a handful of leaders roaming around lazily. “It is a political struggle. We have lodged more than 100 complaints with the police, without expecting any action. All these complaints are for records only. Right now, we cannot operate openly,” said Manna. 
    Manna, who refused to get photographed, shied away from making a specific allegation against the Opposition. “There are extortions, ransom demands, infighting. I am not interested in talking about specific cases. It is an open secret. Everyone in Haldia knows who is doing what.” 
    Unable to maintain its branches, Citu is now merging its branches into one. “It is not that we have given up the political struggle. But we are doing it much cautiously,” the veteran trade union leader said. But the man who used to call the shots in the Left’s heydays, Laxman Seth, remained beyond the reach of the media. “He is now out of Haldia,” Manna said.

Haldia: Faced with losses of Rs 600 crore this fiscal, the management of Haldia Petrochemical Limited (HPL) reduced its hired car fleet by 25% last month to trim expenses. The move was part of a larger cost-cutting exercise across various departments that made around 1,000 of the 1,800 casual workers engaged in HPL redundant. But all of them, blessed by their powerful unions, have refused to quit and continue to draw their regular wages, rendering the whole cost-cutting operation ineffective. 
    Now, as the petrochem giant fends for survival strategies, it continues to issue paycheques worth around Rs 1.5 crore every month to workers not even on the payrolls. Partha S Bhattacharyya, managing director of HPL, said, “The decision was taken as part of the overall cost-cutting exercise. One needs to understand that.” The average monthly pay of an HPL casual worker is Rs 10,000-12,000. “This (paycheques to redundant workers) will affect the margin by Rs 15-18 crore this year,” an HPL official said. Such workers are not HPL recruits but are hired by private contract agencies that are close to the trade unions. 
    The much celebrated political change appears to have done little for Bengal’s largest industrial town, where Trinamool Congress-backed labour unions continue to hold sway and issue diktats in the same fashion that Citu did during Left rule. “When Citu controlled the unions, it forced HPL 
to employ these casual workers. Now, only the signboard has changed and Trinamool-backed labour wing INTTUC has taken over. Nothing else has. We have told union leaders to redeploy the excess labour in other companies. But they are not listening. The company will not survive if they continue to step up pressure,” the official said. 
    HPL officials also alleged the productivity of most of these casual workers is very low. “They are unskilled workers. In Gujarat, if you change contractors, the new contractor has the right to deploy a new set of workers. But here, you cannot do that. And we cannot change the contractors either because no good contractor is willing to come,” an official said. 
    Milan Mondal, working president of the INTTUC-affiliated HPL casual workers’ union, does not think casual labourers at HPL are in excess. “This is a ploy to get rid of workers,” he said. 
    Amid a fierce battle among INTTUC factions for control of unions, HPL’s highly skilled permanent employees — numbering around 400 and most of them engaged in technical jobs — are putting up a brave face. A majority of them have shunned unions affiliated to a political organization. 
    Narayan Chakraborty, an employee of plant materials department, said Citu had forced them to form a union a few years back but they never took active part in the union’s 
activities. “Now, the Citu union exists only on paper. They do not have any influence on us. If INTTUC approaches us, we will say no,” he said. Dibakar Karmakar, an employee of the instrumentation department and Dipnarayan Sarkar, who works in logistics, share the same view. “Why should we form a union when we can approach the management on our own?” Sarkar said.

Haldia (East Midnapore): Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL), the flagship of neo-industrialisation, decided to slash its fleet of cars as a costcutting measure in October. It could shed the car fleet, but could not get rid of the drivers. Result: HPL is paying out the wages of these idle drivers engaged by contractors. 
    Mitsubishi Chemicals (MCCPTA) lost one manday because Trinamool Congress goons demanded a huge sum from the transporters on Viswakarma Puja. The extortionists backed down only when the news reached the state secretariat. 
    

On November 1, goons punctured more than 2,000 cartons of edible oil at Emami Biotech

On November 1, Emami Biotech officials were shocked to see that goons had punctured more than 2,000 cartons of edible oil with knives or screwdrivers. The oil spilled all over the floor of factory’s packaging shed. A complaint was lodged at Haldia’s Bhawanipore police station. The loss was worth Rs 10 lakh. Police retrieved a poster addressed to the labour contractor threatening him with dire consequences. 
    The state’s biggest industrial hub, Haldia, is in dire straits. And it’s not just the economic downturn. Extortion by toughs owing allegiance to the ruling party has become a rule in Haldia — only the party changes with the change of guard at Writers’ Buildings. 
    There was a time when companies used to dispatch the wage bills of workers to the Haldia Citu office from where workers on contract got their wages. With the CPM hegemony gone, Trinamoolbacked unions are desperate to gain control of this “gold trove”. Unlike the CPM era, there is no one Laxman Seth in the area. The new extortion regime has given birth to many such Seths who have started flexing their muscles at the slightest pretext to have their way. If some of these local touts enjoy the confidence of Trinamool MP Subhendu Adhikary, the budding monarch of Haldia, there are others within the Trinamool to queer Adhikary’s pitch. They all swear by Trinamool MLA Shiuli Saha. Investors ignoring this political parameter are bound to suffer. 
    There is no point looking at a single window solution to this problem. It’s not feasible to come all the way to meet chief minister Mamata Banerjee or send an SOS to industries minister Partha Chatterjee for the daily hazards. The politics here revolves around the small-time leaders looking for short-term gains. They are not bothered with the company’s financial health or its future. They want to get their men absorbed in the company payrolls, and not the other way round. And if someone in the Trinamool-backed labour unions takes a pragmatic stance, he runs the risk of getting outnumbered by his factional rivals. 
    The industry has now become a war front with the threats and sabotage turning into full-scale armed clashes to establish hegemony. 
    Managers of industry are now unable to find a method in the madness. They do not know who to negotiate with on wage disputes or other trade union demands. “There is no end to the wheeling-dealing. If we agree to the demands of one 
    faction, we 
    earn the wrath of the other. And yet another group comes up with another charter of demands with a vengeance. We are facing threats and counter threats. In the Left regime, we knew that dealing with the Citu was the ‘be-all-and-endall’ of the issue. But now it is getting tough by the day,” an industry representative said. 
    The desperate situation has prompted the Haldia Council of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce to convene an emergency meeting on November 30. HPL managing director and Haldia Council’s chairman Partha S Bhattacharyya said: “All industry related matters will be discussed in the meeting.” 
    Prior to this discussion, the industry needs to lend ear to what the Trinamool foot soldiers in Haldia have to say. Haldia town Trinamool Congress vice-president Pintu Bhattacharjee and Trinamool MLA Shiuli Saha went hammer and tongs at party MP Subhendu Adhikary. 
   

In the name of the Trinamool trade union, some people are extorting and amassing personal wealth. Neither the party, nor the labourers are benefited. We are the original flag-bearers of the party when the Trinamool was constantly under attack. But when we sought affiliation of our trade union, we were denied by state-level leaders. We have formed a parallel INTTUC union at each company as we can only protect the interest of workers.  “We represent the original party. We built the party’s base, brick by brick. But now we find ourselves left behind. Some opportunistic people, who have come to Trinamool from the CPM, are trying to defame the party and its leader Subhendu Adhikary. We have affiliation. Others who are trying to pass off as the real INTTUC have not been affiliated by the party. What they are doing is unconstitutional. The allegation of extortion against us is baseless

Milan Mondal of the Subhendu faction denied the charge. “Some opportunists from the CPM, who are claiming themselves to be Trinamool workers, have been trying to fish in the murky water. They are trying to defame the party.” However, Mondal admitted that there was some “overdoing”, when specifically asked about the Mitsubishi transporter extortion case. 
When asked about the involvement of dubious characters like Selim, Arman Bhola, Mona Jana and Subal Middadas — all of whom have criminal antecedents — in the trade unions, Mondal saw nothing wrong in it. He described them as “social activists”. “We could not have countered the Citu without them. If you are in danger, they will be the first to come to your rescue. They are the true Trinamool workers. In the Left regime, police booked almost all the leaders worth their salt under heinous sections. So don’t be taken by the police records.” 
    A few days ago, Gokul Tung, a tough of the Shiuli faction, allegedly threatened independent workers agitating at KS Oil gates under the banner of Jana Jagaran Mancha. Tung warned them of a severe beating if they do not come under their fold. 
    If there was any doubt about the Trinamool infighting, hear it in the rivals’ own words. 
    HDA chairman and Tamluk MP Subhendu Adhikary said,” There is no room for confusion. The industry should recognise only affiliated trade unions. Why should it deal with unrecognised ones? There is no truth in the rumours going around. On the contrary, Haldia is experiencing a new dawn with greater productivity, excellent work-atmosphere where both industry and workers can work at peace.” 
    Haldia MLA Shiuli Saha strongly differs. “I am answerable to my people and my voters. I have to raise my voice if my people do not get jobs. If the party MP has his way, why can’t I? I have already written a letter on this to the state leadership,” Saha said.

 Haldia is witnessing a new dawn with greater productivity and zero-man day loss. You will hardly find the extortion and blackmailing that existed at the time of Laxman Seth. Citu has been systematically spreading rumours that have no basis
