Mamta rewards the cop who helped her hide Saradha scam culprits of her party

‘Reward’ posting for Saradha cop

Arnab Ghosh
Calcutta, June 30: Arnab Ghosh, who had been probing the Saradha scam as chief of the detective department of the Bidhannagar police commissionerate, was today transferred as the Nadia superintendent of police.
Some sources interpreted the transfer as a “reward”. They pointed out that the state probe into the Saradha case till now had not unearthed anything that had hurt the ruling party.
On the contrary, it was the Centre-run Enforcement Directorate (ED) that tracked down Saradha chief Sudipta Sen’s wife and son although they were staying in Calcutta all the while.
Ghosh joined as deputy superintendent of police in the state force and became an IPS officer in 2007. He was made the deputy commissioner of police at the detective department of Bidhannagar police commissionerate in February 2013, a month before Sudipta Sen was arrested along with his deputy Debjani Mukherjee.
ED officers had accused Bidhannagar police under Ghosh of not cooperating with them in their probe to find out the ultimate beneficiaries of the scam.
The alleged tussle between the ED and the Bidhannagar police became apparent when the central agency wanted to open a bank locker in Salt Lake that was in the name of Sen’s wife Piyali. The locker had been seized by Bidhannagar police a year ago but no one had taken the initiative to open it.
But when the ED expressed its desire to open the locker, Bidhannagar police swung into action and obtained a court order in a day and seized the articles kept in the locker.
